Bird Phobia

I made these embroideries a while ago but they have since inspired a lot of my stuffed creatures that I have been making. I’d love to make these into cards. Small creative projects involving lots of fabric choosing/mixing/matching are my favourite! They need to be fitted into small amounts of time in between organisation of kids and their naps!
Funny thing is I keep doing bird related works but I have a small bird phobia!

Trimmings Competition Part II

So with my second batch of trimmings I went with the neutral colours so I could add whatever colour I liked.... wouldn't you know it I added a touch of pink! Can't get away from it. I liked the sleepy creatures I made for my first entry and had lots of ideas on making variations of these little guys. This one was bigger than the first, about 30 cm high, which allowed me to play with the pattern on the body. I also made a little teacup with an embroidered outline. Both of these pieces had various added fabrics. The grey zig zag in the ears of the creature was from Kelani, (one of my favourite online fabric stores, I now have some cushions made with this fabric.) The other fabrics were various spots and zigzags that I had.
I had so many more ideas for things to create but have run out of time. At least I have more trimmings left that I can play with to make other things when I get time.

Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition

So I've finally finished some work for the Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition, and just in time for the deadline! I bought two packs of the trimmings so I had different options to play with! The first pack was the warm girly pinks and oranges. I've always loved pink but have recently been using a lot of orange in other textile works. I made these creatures as they were fun and a bit different. Some of my other softies that I usually make are more realistic animal shapes like the elephant. (the little elephant prints were so cute I didn't want to cut it up!)  I mixed some other fabrics in to create the creatures, some spots, stripes and plain fabrics from my stash. My kids keep on wanting to play with them but I haven't let them until they were photographed!

Fabric Love

I love fabric! I think, in fact I know, I’m addicted to it! After reading quite a few blogs it has been very heartening to know that there are so many like-minded people out there who love their fabric and creating things with it. I’m not that weird!

So when I came across the Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition it was exciting and inspiring to imagine what I could do with the fabric you get.  I got my Umbrella Prints Trimmings in the mail a few weeks ago, started creating straight away but have just started blogging. I have meant to start a blog for a while but this competiton got me going so I can upload the bits and pieces that I make.  I actually bought 2 sets of the trimmings as I couldn’t decide on which colour range to get. Here are the two sets, such beautiful fabrics….. I need to finish my creations so I can share the pics.
